When a new movie trailer comes out I will put it into one of 4 categories:
See it in the theatre.
See it in the theatre, but on cheap Tuesday.
Wait for it to be on DVD.
I don’t think so.
With the release of the new Jack Black movie Nacho Libre I had yet another decision to make: What grouping would THIS movie go in. There is no scientific method to my madness; it is all based on a gut feeling I get when watching the trailer for the first time. Superman Returns: Theatre. You, Me & Dupree: Cheapy Tuesday. Fast & The Furious 3 Tokyo Drift: I don’t think so. Nacho Libre: Wait for the DVD.
Then a good friend of mine, and future step-brother-in-law, saw Nacho and raved about it: “Funnier and more brilliant than Anchorman”, he stated. Well that is pretty high praise considering how hard I laughed at the Wil Farrel & Steve Carrell as Brick Tamland in that flick.
So it’s Monday night, my daughter won’t be home right after school because she is at a friends house so I ask my lovely fiancĂ©e out on a date night. When I mentioned the movie we would see she, as always, thought I was kidding. I told her about Adams glowing review of the movie; he used words like genius, funniest and exceptional. She begrudgingly agreed.
What a piece of poo (my kids might read this). Now I laugh at stupid movies like Zoolander, Undercover Brother and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, but this was horrible. There were absolutely no surprises. Every step of the way I knew what was going to happen before it happened.
The only bright spot was Nacho’s wrestling partner Esqueleto. Although, I’m sure he would be funny in anything he does. He would be a Mexican version of Spike (played by Rhys Ifans) from the romantic comedy Notting Hill.
I would never tell anyone not to see a movie. This is my personal opinion, but in case you do decide that you need to go to a theatre, pay $9.00 for a ticket and $29.00 for the popcorn and drink special all to see Nacho Libre… remember this: I warned you.
And for Adam… I still want my money back!
