I arrived Wednesday afternoon at 2:04pm by train. Weird thing was; that is exactly when my ticket said I would arrive: VIA rail does not lie.
The owner of Absolute Comedy was gracious enough to pick me up at the train station and take me for a late lunch before dropping me off at the condo.
The only experience I’ve had with a condo specifically for comedians is the one they used to have at the old Comedywood Comedy Club. While I never saw it, every headliner complained about it. So when I heard that I was staying in one immediately thought of that.
Let me tell you… This is the nicest place I have ever stayed in on the road. The outside of the building is attractive. The condo itself is spacious, clean and fully stocked. Not with food or alcohol, but everything a weary road comic needs: Flat screen TV, DVD player, computer with internet access, microwave, coffee maker, washer, dryer and an iron. The elevator even has a sexy voice to let you know what floor you are on, how cool is that!
All of my previous out of town shows I found myself in a hotel, motel or inn. Some were beautiful and clean, like the Hotel at the Grande Prairie Casino. Others were simply scary like the Derrick Motel in Edmonton. You felt like you needed a shower after just talking to them on the phone. I literally bought a new sheet set to put on the bed for my stay there, and then burnt it upon my departure.
Stay tuned for Part 2...
