While on tour, one of the perks is meeting new comics. You can never have too many friends and networking in this business is oh so very important. Sometimes it is nice to reconnect with comedians that you have worked with in the past.

Over the last two years when I have come out west to perform over the Christmas season I always seem to have one corporate with Erica Sigurdson. So when I found out she was headlining at the Laugh Shop when I was hosting, I was a happy MC. She is extremely funny onstage and off. If you get a chance, check out her website www.ericasigurdson.com.

In the middle spot is an old friend from Toronto Nile Seguin. We have done shows together before in Ontario. He is hilarious. If you haven’t seen him before you can check out his video from Jason Blanchard Presents NEXT TO THE MIC with Nile Seguin.
The last show Saturday was an interesting one. The second I stepped onto the stage I was heckled by a drunken woman at the back of the room. Those who know me know this isn’t an issue. In fact, shutting her up got some big laughs and I thought she would have learned her lesson and would stay quiet for the remainder of the show. I was wrong: Mrs. Toomanycocktails talked to her friend for most of Nile’s set. They were asked by the doorman to be quiet but ignored him. I ask you… Who comes to a show to chat the entire time? How ignorant of a person must you be to talk in full voice at a live show? Erica and I were at the far side of the room and we could hear them. We sat there seething.
“I’ll take care of them Erica”.
I took the stage and addressed the situation. Some might say I was a little harsh. But if they had a sense of humour they would have simply laughed off the comments and closed their mouths. They opted to leave in a huff. What I didn’t know was that they were part of a large group who was celebrating a birthday; most of which came up to me after the show thanking me over and over again for getting them to leave the club.
I do not like being mean on stage. It is not who I am. What is important to me is the show and those bad-mannered girls deserved what they got.
