On the road again...

Hello from Timmins Ontario!

I arrived yesterday on a rather dull and almost uneventful trip. No traffic or weather problems. No interesting adventures through security or the baggage check at the airport.

There was a weird moment when I was having breakfast at the Exchange Cafe in Terminal One. While eating an over priced toasted western sandwich I was watching a sports channel talk about Hamilton Ti-Cats Quaterback Danny McManis. As I look to my right, who is seating next to me? That's right, the future Hall of Famer himself. What a nice and approachable guy. We chatted for about 15 minutes about football, comedy and ex-wives. Before he left for Vancouver, where he is doing media work for the western final, he showed me one of his Grey Cup Championship rings. Damn is it heavy.

The 1 hour 22 minute flight was so much easier than 7+ hour drive I made here in the summer. Not that the drive was bad, hell it was a fun time because I had great company. Shannon and Bill accompanied me last time. Mr. Davern has the best comic road stories. That being said, making the drive back here all by myself would have been extremely boring.

The small and loud DASH 8 propellor plane got me here right on time. There were only 13 passengers aboard, so lots of room to stretch out and relax. Once at the tiny Timmins airport I was picked up by the police. Well, the guy who booked the show, Rick Lemieux, happens to not only be a comedian, but an Officer as well.

Later that evening we made the 2 hour trek to Kirkland Lake. This was the first time he booked a comedy show in this small town of 10,000 people. The bar owner sold 150 tickets and they all showed up.

As I am waiting for the show to start, I am surprised when a long lost army buddy of mine walks through the door, what are the chances? I haven't seen Jason Dicaire since 1995 when we were in the Airborne Regiment together. He was one of my best friends in the Military along with John McNabb and Claude Gauthier. We all went through basic training & battle school together. It was great seeing him again.

The show was awsome. Rick had a fantastic 30 minute set to warm the crowd up. This made it very easy for me. It was so much fun to perform for such an energetic audience. The only obsticle was that people can still smoke in bars in Northern Ontario. I was battling a cough and sore throat before I got on stage. By the end of my set my voice was almost gone.

We have one more show tonight at Nikki's Pub located at the Day's Inn. Luckily that is the same hotel I am staying in so no long drives today. I am really looking forward to watching the show as Rick is putting on the second installment of his"Comedian Idol" contest. They expect to sell out this show too. Should be another great show!
