MAD TV… What happened?

After coming home from a sober night at the pub with some friends, I was happy to see MAD TV had just started. It has been a long time since I have seen an episode, but it was a show that always made me laugh. Well, until tonight.

The first sketch was about a wheel-chaired hostess trying to seat customers in a restaurant with stairs. While there is definite comedy potential there, none was realized. The characters were not likeable, especially the bitchy woman in the chair. The only giggle came with Michael MacDonald showed up at the end.

After a very long commercial break we were back with the next sketch: A weird and overly aggressive 14-year-old girl at a college frat party. This bit went way too long and had no big pay off laugh at the end. Yet again shallow characters that you started to hate the second they opened their mouths?

What happened to you MAD TV? Where are lovable characters like Stuart, Bae Sung (uh oh hotdog guy) and Miss Swan? Perhaps it was just last night’s episode, but holy crap… that really sucked.
