Nurse Bitch? Calling Nurse Bitch.

Those who know me well are quite familiar with my feelings toward doctors (accept my doctor of course, Glen you are awesome). Over the last 2-years while my fiancĂ©e has battled Multiple Sclerosis, we have had many dealings with different medical “professionals” (I use that term very lightly). Those stories are a blog for another day; this one is about a nurse…

I LOVE NURSES. Love them. In my life, with all the times I’ve been to the hospital for various injuries through my time in the military, hockey, and soccer and shear stupidity I have always had the pleasure of dealing with wonderful nurses. Even if they weren’t in the best of moods, they at least conducted themselves in a professional manner.

While visiting my father in law who is in a hospital in Mississauga, I was shocked. I won’t get into the details of why he is there, but he is not comfortable. He is being flushed out and must have a constant flow of fluid. Not should have, MUST have. If it stops it is VERY BAD.

The bag was getting low and the nurse at the desk was informed. Did she have to shoot out of her chair and race to get it done? No. In the next few minutes would be fine. I can’t describe the noise she made, or accurately illustrate the look on her face, but she was rather annoyed at the interruption. Pardon me, but this is your f#*king job. I’m not an expert but I’m pretty sure that the Glamour magazine she was reading was far less urgent than preventing blood clots in a patient. Her shift was apparently close to being over. Could she perform one last duty to prevent someone from suffering excruciating pain? NO!

She disappeared without even informing the next nurse of the situation. By the time her replacement leapt into action, they discovered there was no more left on that floor. The bag emptied and the severe agony began. Not just the 15 minutes of waiting for the bag to arrive, but the residual ache that was suffered through the night.

Anyone guess how long it took to replace the bag? Anyone? 15-seconds.

What is there to say? I still love nurses and greatly appreciate the jobs they do. To this one particular lazy, self-centered, incompetent bitch… I am going to try and have you fired.
